About ProjectÂ
PHRD Nepal, in collaboration with Plan International Nepal, in collaboration with KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency), to carried out the baseline survey “Enhancing Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights in Bardiya District, Nepal” project. The project duration was from March 2021 to December 2023, the project targeted four municipalities within Bardiya. This project for which we are conducting baseline survey is the continuation (Phase II) of the “Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights Promotion Project in Bardiya District, Nepal,” forms part of the KOICA Public-Private Partnership Project 2021-2023. Bardiya District ranks 16th in early marriage occurrences among Nepal’s 77 districts, attributed largely to its rural setting impeding governmental policy implementation and locals’ access to information, compounded by its proximity to the Indian border, exacerbating risks to adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), particularly for girls, through rampant trafficking. Targeting adolescents, particularly girls within Plan’s Sponsorship families, the Tharu community, Dalits, and those with disabilities across five rural municipalities—Barbardiya, Thakurbaba, Madhuwan, Geruwa, and Gulariya—Project Phase 2 aims to increase the community awareness on sexual reproductive health rights, ensuring demand meets the services offered by schools and health facilities, while fostering broader community involvement to bolster local sexual reproductive health rights.
Project target group:
The project primarily targets adolescents in grades 6-8 in schools, secondary schools, parents, and caregivers from the community of those 5 rural/municipalities including the teachers and school management committees (SMCs) of respective municipalities, as well as community leaders and religious leaders. Similarly, the project also targets health service providers, Health Facility Operation and Management Committees (HFOMCs), and local government.
Geographic Area:
The Adolescents SRHR Project- Phase II covers Barbardiya, Thakurbaba, Madhuwan, Geruwa and Gulariya of Bardiya district in Lumbini Province Nepal.
